Fundamentals Of Outdoor Lighting in Minneapolis MN

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

At this time of year, with Christmas right around the corner, people are putting up outdoor lighting of all kinds, and not just for Christmas. Outdoor lighting in Minneapolis makes a huge difference to any property by providing a few fundamental features.

Not only does it dress up the building and the landscaping, but it also provides a certain amount of security on the property as well. Lights that are placed on a motion detector will automatically turn on and alert whatever is prowling around outside to the fact that they are being watched. Whether they are being watched or not doesn’t really matter, they believe that they are and will most likely leave. If they are welcome guests, then they will have a clear, lighted path to follow to come in and visit.

If you are a business, commercial outdoor lighting helps to make customers feel welcome, and will influence them to come inside. The right specialty lighting will go a long way towards making people feel welcome among all the other businesses along your street.

Outdoor lighting doesn’t have to be costly, or complicated. At Edison Electric, we know how to get you fit with a complete set of outdoor lights for Christmas or any time of year, simply by adding a few features to your property. The most important feature would have to be the addition of an outdoor plug or two.

There are always too few of these to go around, and having them right where you need them is a huge benefit. It takes a few tools that the average property owner may not have, and a little know how to tap into the electric panel, but at the hands of an expert, Edison Electric will have you outfit with a complete set of outdoor lights that will turn on and off by themselves, and not add any stress to your existing electric bill. If you are getting ready for Christmas, consider making your outdoor lighting permanent this year. Give us a call to find out how easy it really is. 612-385-7864

Chanhassen Emergency and Troubleshooting Electrical Service

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

Even when you live in a great community like Chanhassen, MN, it can be a challenge to find a good emergency electrician when you need one most. Edison Electric is ready when you have an electrical emergency that needs trouble shooting. Before an electrician can fix something during an emergency call, they first have to isolate the problem, and this takes experience. Analyzing the behavior of a faulty circuit is something that is not always learned from a book, but it is a gathered knowledge that comes from years in the field, working with thousands of faulty circuits, and seeing firsthand the kind of things that can go wrong.

Great troubleshooting and experience go hand in hand, so finding a great emergency electrician means you really need one with a lot of field experience. While burn marks and overloading can be easy to spot, intermittent problems caused by a high resistance connection can be much more difficult to discover. Only by systematically testing a circuit will a good electrician be able to find and correct the real problem.  Good troubleshooters know they must be very thorough if they are going to do the job right, but experience is the biggest factor.

Using an established, local Minneapolis electric company will also have some perks that you may not get somewhere else. Since we work in the area routinely, we have a familiar understanding of the kinds of things that can go wrong, and this all adds up to excellent service, in a very timely manner. If you find that you need emergency electrical repair, and don’t know where to start, keep our number in your speed dial. We are always here when you need us; we are Edison Electric Contractors, serving the Twin Cities area all year long. 612-385-7864

Back Up Generators Work Great in Blaine, MN

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

Like a lot of homes in Blaine MN or some of the other outlying suburbs, yours could be situated on a few acres away from the city, right up next to a lovely small lake. Living in the land of 10,000 lakes, many of us Minnesotans like to take advantage of the numerous water type settings found throughout the state. And of course heading up to the cabin each weekend and even choosing to make our permanent residence’s in rural places . As wonderful as they are in the summer, they can be an awful challenge in the winter when the power goes out. For this reason, many of us have made the commitment to go ahead and set up a backup generator. No matter what time of year it is a loss of power can equate to a major road block to our everyday life, by turning off our lights; locking our car in the garage, and taking us offline. Backup generators can reduce that roadblock to little more than a speed bump, and keep you moving forward until the power is back on.

Generators are not difficult to add, but because people don’t understand them, they are hesitant to actually get one. Speaking with a local Blaine electrical contractor will help you learn more about how a backup generator works, and how it will benefit you when you really need it. While everyone else is sitting in the dark, looking for something to burn, or rationing their gas to the fireplace, you can have options about what to do during your power outage. Since power outages rarely last more than a day or two, a basic, 6,000+ watt generator will keep life normal for those in your home, and if done right, you won’t have to run out for more gasoline every hour to accomplish this. There are several types of generators that collect solar power all the time, and store it in batteries just waiting to be tapped into when the public utilities fail. Once that does happen, the backup generator automatically switches over to the external source, a procedure that is completely undetected by those in the house; and back again when the public utilities turn back on.

Give us a call to learn more about how to make this valuable upgrade to your home, it is something that you may not need very often, but when you do, you will be glad you took this step. 612-385-7864

Improving your Blaine MN Electrical System Will Do Wonders For Reducing Electrical Use

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

As the cost of energy continues to climb, there are always new ways to help reduce its consumption, and get the most out of what you do use. Some studies have shown that by replacing major appliances and other older electrical fixtures with ones that are Energy Star rated, will help to reduce your electric bill by as much as 50%, and make you fully energy efficient. The use of the new CFL bulb alone, will improve lighting, and lower costs at the same time.

Energy Star is a federal program that sets up standards of energy use, and challenges manufacturers to build products that can meet these standards without compromising performance. In the end, we get a high end appliance that uses less energy, and lasts as long or longer than comparable products from years ago.

It has been a major goal of many people and business to lower their energy costs over the past 20 years or so. Improvements to your lighting will make a noticeable change very quickly. Not only do today’s fixtures operate in a more clean, and energy efficient manner, the bulbs are also greatly improved to burn brighter, and last longer. This makes a big difference in a commercial building, where they will often have to hire someone to replace burned out lights.

Both commercial and residential electricity has seen great strides in energy efficiency over the past few years, and there is no reason not to take advantage of it.  Give us a call today- 612-385-7864

Can Your Eden Prairie MN Home Handle Your New Appliances?

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

If you live in an older home, and are replacing your appliances you should really have your Eden Prairie, MN electric panel inspected by one of our trained and licensed electricians to make sure it can handle the load. Upgrading electric panels is something that takes place on a regular basis for those of us in the business. Often times people are surprised to see what kind of condition their panel is in because they assume that since nobody was bothering with it, it should be fine.

The truth is that when your electricity is used the current traveling through your wires generates a small amount of heat.  This repetitive heating and cooling eventually takes a toll on connections, gradually weakening the efficiency of your electrical system.   Electrical panels which have had periodic preventative maintenance by licensed electricians have properly torqued electrical connections and as a result greater efficiency and few problems.

Only a trained electrician will be able to notice important changes such as loose breakers, hot spots, and worn points. Eden Prairie Electric panel replacements and repairs can be done in a day, and are sometimes covered by some form of insurance.

If you run a business from an older building, you should definitely have your panel checked out. Commercial office equipment can use a significant amount of power and if the circuitry was not maintained properly, this could be a recipe for an emergency service call.

Whether you live in an older home, or run a small business out of one, give us a call to come out and inspect your electric panel. It is better to be sure, and bring all your electrical system up to code now before something bad happens, or the power goes out, because emergency electrical services are far more expensive than preventative maintenance. Our company has been serving the Minneapolis / St. Paul and suburban metro for over 10 years. 612-385-7864

Commercial Electrical Services Minneapolis, St Paul Metro

Monday, January 17th, 2011

Keeping your business open is not always an easy task. Especially with winter weather bringing its unpredictable face in and out of our lives. The draws and power surges experienced this time of year can be some of the strongest we experience all year long.

There are some things to know about commercial electric systems that are not always obvious to the untrained eye. To start with, many commercial buildings are older, so their electric panels and circuits were not originally designed to handle the higher amperage that we are running through them these days. Most older panels have circuits which have been incorrectly added onto over the years. Today’s new electronic devices may require a new 20amp circuit.

Another thing to remember is that electricity has had a various and sometimes sketchy past.  There was a time in the 70’s when aluminum wiring was used to help conserve costs. These wires are basically the equivalent to wiring a house with lamp cord. There is no way these poor conductors should be trusted to handle today’s typical draw.

Many times with wiring being older and buried underground, the simple effects of time and nature will take their toll on them as well. Hot and cold; wet and dry; it all takes a little bit of life out of an electrical system over time.

This doesn’t mean, however, that your commercial building necessarily has these issues. The only way to know for sure is to have one of our professional electricians come out to inspect your electrical system, or wait until something goes wrong. Unfortunately, most people wait until something goes wrong, if this happens, please contact us for our emergency electrical service. It will cost more time and money to get your building back up and running then, so it is better to have it checked out before the inevitable happens.

If your building is older than 25 years old, and you experience power surges, brown outs or tripped breakers, or any unusual sounds from behind the walls when you start up your equipment, it is probably a good idea to give us a call. ‘An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Plus, you won’t have to pay extra for emergency service if you do the right thing beforehand. Edison’s Commercial Electricial Minneapolis Services,  are here for you.   651-587-5512
